Airel is a YA story about your average brunette teenager. She's refreshing because she's not a blonde, bimbo cheerleader but rather an easy to identify with character (regardless of reader's age.) She has a random encounter (with an embarrassing latte spill on her part) with the newest student. His near movie-star looks have the female population of the school pining for him, and she dismisses any possibility of snaring his interest.

Despite an odd sickness that seems to grab her at the worst times, and prompts ridicule from her classmates, Michael Alexander still seems to be making a point to say hello and pop up at odd times with her best friend's latest crush. All four end up at a movie together, and Airel witnesses something that both shocks her, and further sets in motion a terrible chain of events that she finds started thousands of year before she was born....



This is a really innocent, and epic YA tale. You can give this to any teen with no fear or worry of a wrong message, or strong content that you don't want them exposed to. The point of view switches back and forth (primarily) from Airel in the present to Krieos (an angel) from the past. There are a few insights into the "bad guy's" mind and even Michael's as well- but they are brief. It involves young love (without a single kiss, let alone anything heavier), duty, finding the truth about themselves, betrayal ....

I really enjoyed this book. It's really almost like reading several books, with the time span and how the "chapters" are broken up. If you enjoy urban fantasy, don't mind YA (and the lack of physical romance) I would highly recommend this book. If you love books with Angels - this is a must-read. I will definitely be looking forward to the next books in the series, especially with the ending of this one. If you're a crier by nature, grab the tissues. I did not personally succumb to tears, but it did touch my heart.
