Excerpt #2
Sleeping on the couch is a bitch.
My back ached even after my morning run, even after a round of sit-ups and stretches—and a long, hot, lonely shower.
As I padded past the bedroom, a towel around my waist, I tried the knob once more.
            Still locked.
I pressed my ear to the door and frowned.
Hannah had been bunkered in our bedroom all night and most of this morning. It was nearly noon. The AC ticked on and I sighed, roaming back to the kitchen.
“I am definitely in the doghouse,” I muttered to Laurence.
A notepad on the counter contained my list for the day.

            FIX SHIT

-        Talk about things w/Hannah (money, therapy, Chrissy)
-        Date (picnic or dinner)

I peeled off the note and wrote another.

Hannah baby, please come out. You can’t stay in there forever. I’m sorry. I love you. I need clothes. XO

I knocked gently on the bedroom door before slipping the note beneath it. Then I retreated to the TV room.
Several minutes later, I heard the door squeak open and clap shut.
I returned to find it locked, a pair of my socks folded on the floor beside a note.

            Here you go.

Grinning, I turned over her note and wrote another.

Where am I supposed to wear these? Or am I supposed to use them for something else? Take pity on a half-naked man. It’s getting chilly out here.

I flicked my reply under the door, then sat on the floor and waited. Soon I heard Hannah rustling in the bedroom. The door opened a crack and a T-shirt flew out.
            She slammed it shut quickly.
            Click went the lock.
            “Goddamn it, Hannah.”
I pulled on the T-shirt and shot another note under the door.

Is this your way of saying you want to see my dick? So coy . . .

A moment later, the door opened and a pair of sweatpants hit me in the face.
            Slam!—click.
“Hannah!” I lunged against the door. “Baby bird?”
            No reply.
God, women are fucking mysterious.

Beyond Limits ~ Edge-of-Your-Seat, Squirm-in-Your-Pants Romantic Thriller

An FBI agent and a Navy SEAL race against time in New York Times bestselling author Laura Griffin’s newest Tracers novel. “Griffin delivers the goods!” (Publishers Weekly)

FBI agent Elizabeth LeBlanc is still caught in the aftermath of her last big case when she runs into the one man from her past who is sure to rock her equilibrium even more. Navy SEAL Derek Vaughn is back home from a harrowing rescue mission in which he found evidence of a secret terror cell on US soil. Elizabeth knows he’ll do anything to unravel the plot—including seducing her for information. And despite the risks involved, she’s tempted to let him. Together with the forensics experts at the Delphi Center, Derek and Elizabeth are closing in on the truth, but it may not be fast enough to avert a devastating attack…

Following in the bestselling tradition of the Tracers series, including Exposed, Scorched, and Twisted, Beyond Limits pulls out all the stops with Griffin’s most gripping thriller yet.

My Review

First of all, let me make a huge shout-out to XOXO After Dark for sending this fabulous package and the honor of becoming a XOXpert.

I've been rocking those hot pink glasses like nobody's business.
Thank you so much for picking me to join your crew
and sending those lovely books and goodies!
*Bonus* I'm looking forward to meeting Laura Griffin in just one week at the
Austin Book Fest and getting Beyond Limits signed!

I must admit, this was my first time cracking a Laura Griffin novel, and I wasn't disappointed.  It was a thrilling, fast-paced read that left me warm on this cold night.  If you've not yet read a previous book in the Tracers series (Beyond Limits is #8), fear not.  I never once felt like I'd been left out of the story, it absolutely works as a stand-alone.

There are just so many things to like about this book!  I must give a thumbs up to the locale (or at least a major one featured in the book) - Houston.  Oh, Houston, how I don't miss your humidity.  It's like a walk down memory lane while reading this book, from the Southwest Freeway to the Galleria (even the ice rink, which I have skated on) to Montrose - spot on.  It really captures the setting for the reader which I couldn't help but be aware of since it was my old stomping ground.

Details.
It's ALL about the details.
Beyond Limits hits pay dirt in all the little things that make the story so realistic and just whisks you away into the action.  Characters interrupting conversation to give directions while driving, acknowledgement of awkward landings while in pursuit of a suspect, smells, procedure, scars, dings in car fendors... I was basking in the details.  Loved them so much.  They may not always further the plot, but they paint such a pretty picture.

Romance.
Hearts and flowers, this may not be.  More like bullets and underwear flying... but with a hot SEAL at your back (regardless if you want him there or not) how can there not be just a little *sigh* of delight.  I was quite pleased overall with the hanky panky, though the tease in the earlier half (several teases, really) let me a twinge frustrated for Elizabeth to let her guard down and take the plunge.

Action.
My legs are tired just from reading about all that running and chasing and knives and terrorists... *out of breath* I'm gonna need a minute.  I had a hard time putting this sucker down.  I was just the slightest bit worried about Derek being a SEAL and Elizabeth a FBI agent, add in a Homeland Security task force and my 'military jargon' radar was twitching.  Color me surprised when I had little to no problem understanding and it flowed so naturally and realistically - it's almost like it directed a movie in my head to accompany the words.

Overall I'd say this is not a book to miss if you like lots of action, military thriller, SEALs, terrorists, and romance!
