Sun Damage Blog Tour + Guest Post +Giveaway!

Sun Damage Synopsis:

Life wasn't what Sophie was expecting, so why should death be any different?
She’s come back from swimming between the two, and every problem she left is still there. And then some.
There’s the human world, where she has a brother on the verge of ruins, band mates all set to go on tour, and people she thought she wouldn't be seeing for a long time showing up.
Then there’s her new world, where she’s seeing and hearing things that should not be heard or seen. Where Myles knows more about her than she could have ever guessed. She still doesn't know exactly why Michael is tormenting her, but somehow, everything is connected.
The monsters are closing in on all sides and the question is, will Sophie be able to defeat them before it all ends?

A Day in The Life of Nikki Rae
A lot of people want to know what a typical day for me is like. I don’t think it’s anything special, but I guess it’s kind of hard juggling everything. I’m a writer, a student, and I have a part time job as well. I have assignments, reading, research papers and books to write and promote. A lot of people ask me how I do it all, and I never know how to answer them.
The thing is, I don’t know.

I wake up early and go to bed late.
Insomnia helps a lot. When you don’t really sleep, you have more time to get things done.

A typical day is waking up at six or seven, doing promotional work and sending emails until I have class, and then actually going to class. When I come home, I spend some time with my boyfriend or playing board games with my friends. Then I write or edit until midnight or later. It’s not like that every day. Sometimes I hang around the house and watch Netflix, sometimes I go out (if I have to). Sometimes I read for eight hours straight and don’t remember how I got there or how it got so late. Sometimes I do my homework when it isn’t due for two weeks, sometimes I do it an hour before class.

If you love something, you make time for it. It’s that simple. I fell in love with writing at a very young age, and I’ve written every day since I discovered how much I loved it. I also love the other aspects of being an indie author. The fact that I do all the work, that I connect with all of these readers and bloggers and other authors. It’s a sense of control that I don’t have in many other aspects of my life, and it’s the most fulfilling thing to me.
That isn’t to say I don’t have days where I feel off. I think people get this impression of me that I’m this sort of machine, pumping out new material all the time. I’m human. I get sad, I get blocked, I have days where all I want to do is watch the entire series of Breaking Bad and not move from the couch.
If no one wanted to read what I wrote, I would still write. No matter how many plates I have to keep spinning, Writing is the one that never falls to the ground. It’s the thing that makes me get out of bed when I’m sad, the thing that motivates me to keep going when bad things happen.

So I don’t know how entertaining a day in my life would be to someone else. Honestly, I don’t think I do much. I just do what I’ve always done. Write. Then I fill in school, work, and relationships between the writing.

She has a secret.
I’m complicated. Not broken or ruined or running from a past I can’t face. Just complicated. I thought my life couldn’t get any more tangled in deceit and confusion. But I hadn’t met him. I hadn't realized how far I could fall or what I'd do to get free. He has a secret. I’ve never pretended to be good or deserving. I chase who I want, do what I want, act how I want. I didn’t have time to lust after a woman I had no right to lust after. I told myself to shut up and stay hidden. But then she tried to run. I’d tasted what she could offer me and damned if I would let her go. One secret destroys them.

Hazel:
It was the best kiss I’d ever received, but also the worst. It sparked lust and need in every inch of me. My lips wanted more, my tongue wanted savagery. My skin wanted to bruise because he needed to touch me so badly. All my thoughts disappeared as I nipped at his bottom lip. He flinched, but a second later he copied, his sharp canines piercing my oversensitive flesh. I moaned. I couldn’t take it. My hands flew up and gripped his shirt. Yanking him toward me, fireworks whizzed in my fingertips; my heart galloped toward exploding with lust. I’d never been so drunk on someone before. Then I landed flat on my back. The crack of my skull jangled my teeth. The thick carpet did little to cushion me. My eyes flared wide and I grunted in pain. Fear, hot and terrible, swamped my lust in a dampening wave. “Top rule. Unbreakable rule. Don’t. Ever. Touch. Me.” Fox kneeled on one knee beside my head, breathing hard. His hand noosed my throat, pressing my spine into the carpet. His eyes were cold and lifeless, looking like a hunter intent on blood.

Five ARCs Giveaway of Unnatural by J.A. Belfield from J. Taylor Publishing!

J. Taylor Publishing are giving away FIVE ARCs of Unnatural by J.A. Belfield!

Check it out!

Unnatural. One word to sum up werewolf Kyle Larsen—his mood swings, abnormal body, and choice of female. The first two, he blames on the vampire venom. The third, though? No, feline shifter Brook Nicholls was all his doing—a female of whom the pack will never approve. As part of the Coalition, an organisation with even stricter rules than the pack and a rigidly warped sense of responsibility, Brook comes with a whole lot of opposition of her own. No wonder the two of them keep their relationship secret for as long as they can. Now, distanced from his family by his own indiscretions, Kyle’s left to fight battles he’s unsure how to win—some of them even against his own pack. Is one woman really so important that he’s willing to defy his Alpha for her? If his heart has any say in the matter, the answer will be yes.
A great addition to the Holloway Pack, UNNATURAL will please both veterans of the series and new readers alike. It also just might be the paranormal romance you've all been waiting for.
And J. Taylor Publishing is giving away FIVE ARC copies.

Excerpt
I hovered over her sweet body, the soft flesh beneath my fingers like fucking silk. Her hands laced in the rungs of the headboard above her head, propping her breasts high and full for me. Her head was thrown back in ecstasy, full lips formed in a a perfect O as moans escaped her throat. She was fucking stunning. I moved in and out of her, slowing my pace, hitting her as deep as I could, rounding my hips with each slow thrust and drag. She was everything, had been my everything for a few months, the only one that had ever gotten me. All of me. The me that no one else had ever seen. Fuck of it was, she was my brother’s fiancée. I’d fucking taken her right from under him. I hadn’t meant to, I don’t think she’d meant to either, it’d just happened one night, and there’d been no going back. And now here we were, months later, I was still plowing into her—taking her, owning her, making her mine—every fucking night in my bed, hearing her call my name, her eyes hazy with lust and love when I finished. Except tonight was different. Tonight was the last time. Tonight I was ending it. My heart clutched in my chest as the words floated through my head. My eyes burned with the pain of it. I didn’t want to let her go, but more than anything, I was sick of running. And seeing my brother again had finally opened my eyes. This was it.

They color the past and forecast the future, but I'm determined to open her up; free her from her memories so she can live in the light and have the life she deserves. It's just too bad that she wants nothing to do with me. But I'm nothing if not persistent and I'm not a man that gives up without a fight. I've had a taste and there's no walking away. What advice would you give your younger self (or any young person)?
By David Estes

Thanks for having me on your awesome blog, Alana, and thanks for the awesome topic! I think this is a really cool topic because I often think about my past and what I would change if I could do it all again. Living with any sense of regret probably isn’t the healthiest thing, but I think learning from mistakes IS important, particularly when you can pass that advice on to the next generation.
So if I could hop in the Delorian or some other time travel machine and have a Pepsi with my sixteen-year-old self, what would advice would I give him?
Well, besides slipping him a list of sports teams to bet on and lottery numbers to play, the first and most important thing I’d say is: Follow. Your. Heart. Although there’s a lot that can be said about making smart decisions and using your brain to make them, I personally believe that life is too short to be pragmatic all the time. Sometimes what seems like the smart decision, is really just the easy one and it won’t lead you to true happiness. For me, I went into accounting because I was reasonably good at it and I was pretty much guaranteed a decent-paying job after I graduated from college. I even stuck with it for 7 years! But was I ever really happy in that job? No. I made some good friends, saved a bit of money, and was able to move to Australia because of it though, so I don’t regret any of it, but I could have been doing something I loved all those years…writing books.
The next thing I would say is: If it doesn’t feel right it’s probably not right. That might come across as rather cryptic, but if interpreted correctly, would save him a lot of pain in the future. That being said, I wouldn’t want my younger self to avoid all the mistakes I made, as sometimes it’s our mistakes that allow us to grow the most and become a better version of ourselves.
Finally, I would tell teenager David Estes to enjoy every moment. The years pass by in a flash, and it’s the small moments in our lives that we regret not having appreciated at the time. Enjoy those moments when they’re happening, not ten years down the line when you wish you could do it all over again. Laugh more. Argue less. Count your blessings.
Although I still consider myself young at 32 years old (don’t you dare say I’m not!), to anyone younger out there who’s trying to find your way in life, I’d say to enjoy life NOW. Don’t always be looking ahead to a time you think will be better, like retirement. Love your high school years, love your college years, and love your adult lives. Every stage of your life, even the ones that feel the most awkward, are worth living to the fullest and equally important. Be yourself and don’t let anyone tell you you’re not special, because you are. Dream big and fight for what you believe in. Treat others with kindness and pay kindness paid to you forward to others who need it. Love with all your heart and don’t be afraid to let it be broken sometimes. It will heal and it will become stronger. Love you for you, and don’t try to remake yourself to satisfy someone else. Be you. Perfectly imperfect.

Now if I could just follow all my own advice, I could be the happiest man alive! In any case, we’re all human and we’re all connected and trying to live our lives as best as we can. And if we fail, we’re always allowed to get back up, even if we need someone to pull us from the front and push us from behind.

Night & Day ~ 'A Suze-sized Short Set after the 19th Year'

Something is wrong with Suze. His memory, his magic, even his muscles have all gone mental. If he's not careful, the underworld's version of the loony bin may be his next stop.
Not ready to give up the goat yet—if he had one he didn’t eat that is—Suze sets out to stop the mystical mayhem. Unfortunately, this isn't a fairy tale, and Suze isn't Snow White felled by an apple waiting for a kiss. Nor is he Prince Charming.
Nope, he's just Suze. A destroyer demon stuck without the one person who probably kept him sane for the last eighteen years. Mackenzie Thorne. Or, maybe, just maybe, Mac made him insane, and what was once wrong is now right.

The only thing Suze is sure of—maybe—is that he needs to find the cure. However, with boy wonder memory-less and Mac in California, he’s not even sure where to start.

Of course, once he does figure it out, everything will fall into place like a well designed set of dominoes. Where the path leads, though, is a place Suze never would have expected.

The entire series has been a blast thus far ~ so many supernatural critters!  I can't wait to sink my teeth into this little morsel!  And Suze is just fabulous!  How cute is that cover, too!

  • This will be available in print and ebook.

Astrid, The Dragonslayer's Blacksmith ~ Last Day FREE!

Astrid constantly worries about her place in the village of Guell.  She loves being the apprentice of Guell’s blacksmith, Temple.  But Temple bought her from a childseller many years ago, which means Astrid has no blood kin in Guell.  If anything should happen to Temple she’s likely to lose her home, her work, and her sweetheart, DiStephan, the dragonslayer’s son.

One day Astrid’s worst fear comes true when Temple and DiStephan fail to return from a short journey to a nearby village.  A teenage boy named Finehurst arrives in Guell, claiming to be Temple’s nephew and rightful heir – and insisting that he saw Temple and DiStephan killed by a dragon.  The villagers are divided in their opinion of Finehurst, but Astrid is soon thrown out of her own home, desperate to find a way to regain it.  Before the dragonslayer goes in search of his missing son DiStephan and Astrid’s mentor Temple, he sets forth a challenge for Finehurst and Astrid to prove their blacksmithing skills by forging a dagger.  Normally, Astrid would be confident, but the village’s iron supplies are so low that she doesn’t know how she can possibly make a dagger that can prove her worth.

Astrid, The Dragonslayer’s Blacksmith is an all new mini novel that takes place in Resa Nelson’s Dragonslayer world (the 4-book series includes The Dragonslayer’s Sword, The Iron Maiden, The Stone of Darkness, and The Dragon’s Egg).  Appropriate for adults and teens, ages 14 and up.  Visit Resa Nelson’s website at www.resanelson.com.  Follow her on Twitter @ResaNelson.

My Thoughts:

Now I'm not sure if y'all have cottoned on... but I've become a BIG fangirl of Adriane's books.  I'll admit, it was a rocky start for me with the Lace series (but that is another story all together) but then once I read the Mourning series- that was it.  Adriane has me as a rabid, auto-buy fan after that series; she caught me hook, line, and sinker.  So, once I found out about this new HOT romance... and let's face it, just look at that cover, I was chomping at the bit to sink my teeth into Wild.

I suppose not every book is going to please everybody equally - although, don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed Wild, but I didn't love it with the passion of a thousand suns like I did with the Mourning series.  Was I fanning myself despite the low temperatures outside?  YES!  On just the hotness scale (from one to ten) Wild goes to an '11'.  Maybe even 11½.  Shoot, there might not be enough numbers to describe how your panties could spontaneously combust into flames.  Despite all this scorching across the pages... have no fear, there is not some raunchy *boom*chicka*bow-wow* background track to the book (well, not loudly, anyway.)

I think some of my reservations reside in the characters.  Now, usually I love me some alpha, bad boy 'player' in my fictional books... and I've read some SERIOUS alpha stuff in my day.  But Lane Wild had to grow on me... he's got 'alpha' and 'player' and 'bad boy' in SPADES I tell you!  But somehow, I had trouble trusting that there was that underlying heart of gold. He's one of those 'GREAT on paper in a fictional story' but put him in a room with me in real life, and I'd likely be alternating between climbing him like some brauny mountain and scratching his face off.  And Kat... dig that she was a redhead (I have some serious unresolved jealousy issues about my mother's red hair that she did NOT pass on to me), I understood the reasoning behind her 'issues' and why it made her react the way she did... but I just was having a harder time getting really comfortable with them.  I didn't dislike them, but I would be bosom buddies with them, either.  Maybe it's just simple jealously of how darned hot they are together!

Overall: It's like taking a Nicholas Sparks romance, and mixing in an erotic film (notice I said erotic, and NOT porn.)

I received an ARC from Adriane Leigh in exchange for an unbiased review.

Author Bio:
The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessica Sorensen, lives in the snowy mountains of Wyoming. When she's not writing, she spends her time reading and hanging out with her family.

“Baby, come on. Let them be. They deserve a beautiful wedding not an elopement in a tacky fake church.” Lila glides her hand up the front of his chest, stands on her tiptoes, and kisses his neck. Then she whispers something in his ear as she plays with his hair.
I’ll admit they make a cute couple, especially now that Lila has this whole grunge thing going. Her blond hair is chin length and streaked with black that matches Ethan’s hair. She’s wearing jeans and a tank top that aren’t name brand like everything she used to wear when we were living together. Her style goes well with Ethan’s laidback look: his plaid shirt and faded jeans and a pair of sneakers that he’s probably owned since he was sixteen. And Lila’s average height allows her to nestle her head against Ethan’s chest comfortably. Looking at them with the sunlight and my house in the backdrop, I find myself wishing I had time to draw them.
After a lot of kissing and whispering in Ethan’s ear, Lila convinces him to stop complaining and he begrudgingly agrees that Vegas is a ridiculous idea and that Micha and I should get married in Star Grove.
“A week is not a lot of time to prepare a wedding,” Lila declares, pulling her sunglasses over her eyes. “Not a real one with decorations, flowers, dresses, tuxes, and guests. God, I wish we had more time to plan this.”
“And I wish you wouldn’t take any time to plan it,” I say, and when she frowns I sigh. “Sorry, I’m just not into wedding stuff.” I round the car to the passenger side of the Chevelle, trailing my finger across a few dings and chips in the black paint that were put there when Micha intentionally crashed it into the snow bank.
Micha opens the driver door and steps back so Ethan can climb into the backseat. “It doesn’t matter what kind of wedding we have,” he says, “just as long as Ella’s there with me. In fact, we don’t even need dresses and tuxes. We could even be naked and standing in my backyard and I’d be okay.” He winks at me over the roof of the car. “As long as we’re together, I’ll be happy and being naked would just be an added bonus.”
This makes Lila giggle as she ducks her head and hops into the backseat with Ethan. I push the seat back, get in the car, and shut the door, then pull the visor down to block the sunlight.
Micha adjusts the driver’s seat before he closes the door and starts the engine. “So is everyone ready for this?” He looks around at the three of us, but when his eyes finally land on me I know he only really cares about my answer.
It takes me a second to answer and he notices my hesitation and his expression starts to fall. But even though my throat feels dry I manage to say, “Of course.” My voice trembles a little.
“Okay then.” Giving me a small but slightly forced smile, he backs down the driveway and drives toward the highway, toward home where all of this started. Where Micha and I first met, first talked, first played, kissed, fooled around, danced, said I love you.
Where Micha and I began.

My Review:

I simply adore this series, although it is a slighter darker romance due to the first book.  Thought The Mourning After (book one) gives essentially a HEA, this book is NOT a rehash of book one.  I think a reader really needs the first book to fully understand the characters in this book for maximum enjoyment.  Their past, rife with 'cheating', in addition to their skeletons in the closet is a perfect foil to their all-encompassing love.

Officially, my rating is only 4½♥'s.  I feel absolutely confident of rounding up to 5 stars in this case, because my slight issue with the story lies with my own, somewhat similar experience.  I don't want to go into specifics of my past, but my own past colored the book a bit just due to reminders of personal not-so-happy moments.

I LOVED getting to see inside Tristan's mind (as well as still hearing from Georgia.)  Being able to know exactly what he was feeling and thinking provided such insight and really added a more rich layer.  I had no difficulties remember who's head I was inside at any given time.  I think the dual narrators was absolutely perfect for this book, and would have suffered with it's absence.

The characters you know and love from book one all make appearances in this, including one of my not-so-loved characters, Kyle.  *rolls eyes*  Douchebag once, douchebag always.  But sometimes you need to have the experiences with the douchebags of this world to really recognize the diamonds you run across, the loves that are worth fighting for.

These books have confirmed my 'fandom' of Adriane Leigh's writing, she's achieved 'auto-buy' status in my 'book'.

I'm in between books-- I'm either starting Wethering the Storm or Worthy of Redemption tonight.

Do characters or stories (plots) drive your writing?

I start with the story and once I have a good sense of the characters they take over and drive the ship :)

What color is your toothbrush?

white + green

What's your favorite quote (from any source)

"She reads books as one would breathe air, to fill up and live" is tattooed on my arm, so I would say that one!

How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?

Depends on how talented you are ;)

Are you a morning person?

Not in any way whatsoever!

Which, if any, big screen production of a literary work are you looking forward to?

Obviously, Fifty Shades! Even if it's terrible I'll see it again and again!

What is the average airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

This feels like a science queston, and I don't do science. Or math. If it's outside of reading or writing it's not my forte.

What would we find in your refrigerator right now?

Juice, feta, and half empty condiment bottles. I need to go shopping!

You can take a road trip with anyone (living or dead, fictional or real), who would you take and
where would you go?

I'd go to the North Carolina beach with Tristan! I want that golden hair and lopsided smile in person!
